10 Awesome Games With Terrible Voice Acting

6. Shenmue

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=c1vVPxpEksI It's impressive that, given how Shenmue was the most expensive and ambitious video game ever made at the time of its completion, Sega still couldn't afford to hire talented voice actors for the mammoth project. In all other aspects - except perhaps for the shoddy controls - Shenmue is a masterpiece of gaming and easily the best game ever made for the Dreamcast, as we filled the shoes of Ryo Hazuki while he attempted to get revenge for the murder of his father. It's a great story with interesting characters that is somewhat undone by its horribly robotic voice acting, draining the game of much of its emotion. Some of the characters are clearly supposed to be enthusiastic and emotive, but the voice actors have clearly no idea what they're doing, because the end result is absolutely bereft of any heart or indication that it's actually a human being providing the voice. It's an odd phenomenon that pervades through pretty much every character in the game, and most tragically of all, even Ryo himself. If a third game ever gets made - which it probably won't - this is something they're going to need to fix, because it was an issue in the second game as well.
