6. Third-Person Gordon Freeman - Half-Life: Blue Shift
Given that the Half-Life series unfolds from a first-person perspective, it's unsurprising that exterior glimpses at bespectacled protagonist Gordon Freeman are few and far between. Expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift, however, does allow for a few sneaky looks at the crowbar-totting scientist. Throughout the game, the player controls iconic security guard Barney, and eagle-eyed players will be able to spot Gordon arriving for work on the tram, as well as watching him move around Black Mesa via the facility's surveillance system. Aside from easter eggs, however, the big one comes in the final chapter of the game, Deliverance, where Barney ends up being transported around a number of locales. He eventually ends up in a dingy storage room, and if you look out of the grated window, you can see a scene from the first game, with two HECU soldiers dragging Freeman off while questioning while they don't just kill him (an amusing exchange occurring moments before the convoluted yet entertaining trash compactor episode from the original game's Apprehension chapter). The scene may only last a few seconds, but it's a great nod to the original game, and makes Blue Shift feel a little more consequential (even though it's still really not).
