10 Awesome Moments That Defined The Nintendo GameCube
7. Soul Calibur II - Link
Soul
Calibur – a series which began in 1995 with Soul Edge – has often included exclusive
characters, only available on certain consoles. Soul Calibur II was no
different, and alongside Tekken's Heihachi Mishima on PS2 and Spawn on the X-Box, the game included Link as a playable character exclusively on Nintendo
GameCube. As such, the two are inseparable in most player’s minds, especially
seeing as how the GameCube version sold significantly more than its counterparts.
Borrowing his appearance from Ocarina of Time, Link in Soul Calibur is an amalgamation of numerous versions of the character, rendering him somewhat of an anomaly. In the game, he has no real weaknesses, but no particular strengths – he’s a good all-rounder, with a decent amount of speed and strength – meaning most players would constantly pick him, making him one of the most overused fighters in the game.
Honestly, I can’t imagine the game without him, which is truly telling. He defined the game for many people, and cannot be easily disassociated.
