10 Awesome Video Game Abilities With ONE Fatal Flaw
9. The Winged Cap - Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64 was revolutionary upon release, and not just because it was the first 3D platformer. Rather than focusing on moving from Point A to Point B, the N64's launch title focused on exploration, allowing players to go where they wanted and perform tasks in whatever order they desired.
Nothing encapsulates this more than the Winged Cap. If Mario performs three jumps in a row while wearing this hat, the Italian plumber will be able to take to the skies. If he blasts out of a cannon while using the item, he can soar hundreds of feet in the air, allowing him to reach otherwise inaccessible areas in seconds.
Ironically though, the cap is responsible for some of the most annoying aspects of gameplay, thanks to tricky controls. Manoeuvring around the clouds to collect Red Coins or Power Stars isn't easy, especially since Mario's maximum height while using the power-up decreases every second.
Although the Winged Cap is one of most iconic power-ups in the franchise, it's responsible for more deaths than most Nintendo fans would want to count.
