10 Awesome Video Game Villains Who Deserve Their Own Title
8. Vaas - Far Cry 3
We know from the off that the story of the psychopathic Vaas from Far Cry 3 isn't going to be a redemptive tale, bearing in mind how unhinged he ends up being. But Vaas is also intelligent, impulsive, and one hell of a guy to spend time with (from a gamer's perspective). It was a crime to kill off Vaas some time before the end of the game, and the story kind of fizzled out once he was no longer involved. But what little we know of Vaas' backstory could be fleshed out to make a great game. The guy was actually born into the Rook Islands' native Rakyat tribe and the brother of their leader Citra. He went through the same warrior trials as Jason Brody before Citra wanted to have an inbred warrior baby with him. Poor adolescent Vaas obviously felt a tad uncomfortable about this, and duly fled the islands, only to return as a pirate to terrorise its populace years later. See? It was all Citra's goddam fault! A rise-and-fall story of Vaas would be fantastic, seeing him earn his warrior colours, but then flee and become corrupted by trying to survive in the wider world. What makes him go back to terrorise his Rakyat brothers and sisters? At which point does he flip to the dark side? It should be a first-person shooter, but with a greater focus on dark hallucinatory sequences as he descends into drug addiction, and a hell of a lot less focus on capturing outposts (though given it'd be an Ubisoft game, that's wishful thinking).
