Developed by Supermassive Games and released in January 2018, The Inpatient is a psychological horror game taking place in the same universe as the acclaimed Until Dawn. Set up as a prequel to the title starring Rami Malek, The Inpatient takes place 63 years before the events of Until Dawn in the creepy Blackwood Sanitarium.

Unlike Until Dawn, The Inpatient is played through a first-person perspective, giving the whole game a much more immersive experience than its sequel. This perspective also means that players never get a look at what their protagonist looks like, a fact that becomes especially damning once they make it to the story's finale.

Depending on the choices players make over the course of the story, the game can end with the protagonist eating human flesh and becoming the twisted Wendigo monsters from Until Dawn. In a final closing shot, the protagonist is shown stalking Hannah and Beth, the opening two deaths in Until Dawn that kickstart the events

It's a tidy little revelation that helps tie together the two titles, and will certainly give the Wendigo an added dimension when players play through Until Dawn again.
