Head of Double Fine Studios, Mr Shaffer is responsible for some of the most memorable video games ever released. It's just a shame that no one ever seems to buy them. Psychonauts is perhaps, Tim Shaffer's greatest achievement. With that, let's talk about the game and why no one decided to buy it. In Psychonauts, you play as Raz, a young circus performer with some seriously powerful psychic powers. Raz leaves his life behind and sneaks away to join a summer-camp for psychics. Greatest character back story ever? Maybe. Levels take place within the disturbing dreams of Raz's fellow students, or 'Psycadets.' This allowed the developers to go completely buts with level design. Environments range from your not so run of the mill insane asylum to a Godzilla style Tokyo €“ complete with all every '60s monster movie stereotype ever thrown into a video game. Strong critical endorsements and glowing praise didn't translate into sales for poor old Double Fine Studios. The solid writing, great level design and unique characters initially went by unnoticed In the years since release, a steady fanbase has grown around the game Tim Schaffer himself. His games may not be known buy all, but his popularity with gamers is testament to the all round quality of his games. Thanks to some crafty petitioning, Double Fine made the game backwards compatible for the Xbox 360. Psychonauts is also available to purchase on Steam.
