10 Awesome Video Games You Had No Idea Were Getting Movies

8. Dragon's Lair

Mario And Luigi
Don Bluth

Dragon's Lair - the classic Rick Dyer/Don Bluth game. Essentially an old school easy-to-die-in series of quick time events. A perfect run-through of the game lasts a mere twelve minutes, though almost double that animation footage exists to account for the various ways a player can fail or die in the game.

There was a failed attempt at turning the game series into a film in the '80s, being helmed by famed Sci-Fi adapter Alan Dean Foster. After Bluth and producer Gary Goldman failed to fund a Kickstarter for a short teaser video in 2015, they tried again in 2016 on Indiegogo and got the funds they needed to produce an animated prototype.

With a planned release date of May, 2020 they have stated it will be a prequel, and possibly origin story, explaining how Dirk the Daring and Princess Penelope first met. They've also promised fans that Princess Penelope won't be portrayed as just 'a blonde airhead', likely more in line with the 1984 cartoon series.

It will be Bluth's first film since 2000's Titan A.E. and is believed to have a budget of $70 million. No word on who may star as the voices of Dirk and Daphne, though.
