8. Halo Wars
Ignored by many players of the "regular" Halo franchise, Halo Wars is an RTS title set two decades before the first game. It still stands as perhaps the only console-based RTS to actually deliver satisfactory controls, and for that it has to be enormously commended. Though the gorgeous cinematics might cause us to feel a little deflated when the more modest visuals of the gameplay kick in, there's still a superb level of attention-to-detail to the world that Ensemble Studios has built. As someone who
isn't a big RTS player, I supremely appreciated how strongly the game streamlined its whole approach; it's easy to navigate your way around the various options, such that players don't become overwhelmed. I expect that RTS vets may find it a tad more simplistic than what they're used to on the PC, but in melding two seemingly unlikely worlds, Ensemble pulled off a major coup, if one that was certainly too-ignored by the franchise's core fanbase (despite being the fastest-selling strategy game of all time).
