9. Blue Dragon
Blue Dragon is designed and written by Final Fantasy's creator himself, Hironobu Sakaguchi, telling the tale of a group of five friends who trek across the world to face off against Nene, the evil dictator running the Grand Kingdom. Like any RPG worth its salt, exploring your vast surroundings is key, as is visceral combat, and while it might seem to pale
slightly compared to the more fluid systems of contemporary RPGs such as Final Fantasy XIII, it's still a minor classic that's absolutely worth your time. It is nothing if not an unapologetically old-school RPG, and though much of it has been done (arguably better) before, it's superbly realised from a visual and aural perspective; the music is super catchy especially, and the cut-scenes are rendered with an uncommon attention-to-detail in games of this genre. If not quite hitting the highs of the FF franchise, it's still another winner for Sakaguchi.
