10 Awesomely Unconventional Ways People Beat Video Games

4. Playing Songs From Memory In Performance Mode (Guitar Hero)

Guitar Hero Performance Mode in the Guitar Hero games is an utterly punishing difficulty level in which, short of knowing a good majority of the guitar notes off-hand, you're doomed to fail. The mode doesn't even display the fret-board, instead playing an animation of the song while daring you to see if you know any songs well enough to play them from memory. While this can be achieved intermittently for some of the easier songs on Expert perhaps, some absolute masochists - or savants - have played what is generally regarded as the hardest song in any Guitar Hero game, DragonForce's "Through the Fire and the Flames", on Expert, in Performance Mode. The vast majority of the game's players can't even come anywhere close to completing it on Expert with the notation, so this is essentially their idea of Hell. That anyone can do this is a testament to the fact that most of us really do use only 1% of our brains.
