6. Count Duckula 2

The first coming of Count Duckula on Spectrum and Amstrad was passable; it had a neat title (No Sax Please – We’re Egyptian) and was what you’d expect from a turn of the nineties, tie-in platformer. It’s sequel, though, was a far more terrifying prospect.

While the long-billed, longer suffering Count seemed at home in an Egypt setting (lots of ghoulish things knocking about), this sequel went all high concept, where the caped hero of sorts is stuck on the Planet Cute, trying to get back to Transylvania. This means lots of tired sci-fi visuals and a backward approach to gameplay where the aim of each stage is to simply get from left to right, armed only with a ketchup gun.

With repetitive gameplay and an annoying 8-bit soundtrack, Count Duckula 2 has the ‘honour’ of being voted the worst Spectrum game of all time.
