10 Awful Video Games With AWESOME Mechanics
3. Control Any Soldier - Battlefield 2: Modern Combat

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is the fourth instalment in EA's war saga and separate from Battlefield 2, which is the third instalment. (EA isn't great at naming games.)
Though not terrible in itself, the shooter was a step back compared to Battlefield 2, since it offers no destructive environments, fewer players on multiplayer, and noticeably smaller maps. With the servers shutting down less than a decade after its release, Modern Combat can't be played online anymore without resorting to fan-made outlets.
However, there's one aspect that deserves a heap of praise. In other Battlefield entries, players take control of a single soldier in the main campaign.
But Modern Combat offers a Hot Swap option, allowing you to switch between characters in real time. As a result, players can strategise when to jump to another position to give themselves the best tactical advantage. The Hot Swap worked so well, it should've become a regular feature in the series.
And yet, the mechanic hasn't reincorporated in any of the follow-ups over the last 20 years. Considering how downhill the franchise has been (especially the recent Battlefield 2042), it might be time to bring back this feature.
