10 Bad Video Games With ONE Great Level

7. Distress - Aliens: Colonial Marines

There's no denying that Aliens: Colonial Marines is one of the most egregious examples of false advertising in the gaming industry possibly ever. After showcasing an incredible E3 "gameplay" demo, featuring a picture-perfect retread of Aliens, Xenomorph fans were excited. We didn't care that it was just a story about following in the footsteps of the film's events - it had all the foreboding atmosphere, dreadful anticipation, and panicked terror that are hallmarks of the classic film.

Then we played the game and it was a bigger disappointment than Duke Nukem Forever. The graphics... well... sucked. And worse, the Xenomorph AI was so dysfunctional that the iconic "perfect living organism" became a joke, walking into walls and just staring at you as you shot them.

But that first level - OK, fine, first half of the first level - still works. Despite the graphical downgrade, it still does feel like being in Aliens. From the disaster that strands you on LV-426 to slowly making your way through the abandoned facility as mysterious, unaccounted for blips start appearing on your motion sensor - it almost feels like a ghost train ride.

Unfortunately it all very quickly falls apart and never recovers.
