10 Most Badass Moments From The Metal Gear Series (So Far)
2. Tanker Infiltration (Metal Gear Solid 2)
The lack of Metal Gear Solid 2 may appear conspicuous here, but there are simply not that many badass moments in this game; at least not enough to rival the others. However, what it does have is one of the most memorable moments in the entire franchise, and so it can be forgiven. It helps that the scene in question occurs right at the start of the game, when you thought Snake was going to be the main character throughout. Seeing as this was possibly the most highly anticipated game of the PS2 era, it was important that it showcased what Metal Gear Solid would be capable of with a shiny new graphics engine, and it did not disappoint. As Snake, you have an improved arsenal of moves at your disposal, with the best one being the ability to hold up the soldiers from behind and force them to drop ammo and rations. The fact you could shoot the radio to avoid backup being called was just another beautiful little touch in a franchise known for them. Even if you played the demo which shipped with Zone Of The Enders, there was still a lot of fun to be had during the tanker section; as Snake uses his new techniques to terrify and bemuse in equal measure. The vastly improved engine contributed to a feeling that the original Metal Gear Solid was just the tip of the iceberg and this is where Kojima's true vision would be realised - unfortunately that vision turned out to be a little misguided, but that doesn't take anything away from this truly brilliant opening.
