8. Jesse Faden - Control
2018’s Control introduced us to Jesse Faden, director of the Federal Bureau of Control, or FBC for short, in one of the most original games in recent years. Faden is the star of the game, talking to herself (well, the entity in her head) a lot and commenting on everything that is happening around her. This serves as a way for Faden to interact directly with the player, expressing her thoughts and feelings on her journey directly to us.
Since losing her family at a young age, Faden has spent most of her life alone, in search of her brother Dylan (who was captured by the FBC when Jesse was 11). Despite everything she has been through, Faden always maintains her positive attitude. Highly capable with a gun and telekinetic abilities, she quickly becomes the new director of the FBC and helps the staff there to push out the mind-controlling Hiss.
Faden never shies away from conflict, and actively helps everyone she comes across. Despite the grim situation inside the Oldest House, where the game takes place, she remains headstrong and positive, often even commenting on how much she is enjoying her time there. Positive, willing to lead and capable, Jesse Faden is everything you could possibly want in a director and more.
