10 Baffling Oversights In Otherwise Great Video Games
2. Assassin's Creed Is A Stealth Game Without A Crouch Button
For a game almost entirely based around staying out of sight and keeping hidden, it’s absolutely ridiculous that until Assassin’s Creed: Unity - the franchises’ seventh entry no less - players couldn’t even crouch to keep out the view of patrolling enemies.
The lack of a crouch button would have been a fine, if a bit weird, design choice in any other game, but when the whole experience of a title is centred around increasingly elaborate ways to stay unnoticed in a dense open world, it always felt completely at odds that as a master Assassin you couldn't even do something as simple as this to avoid the wrath of incoming guards.
For the most part the omission of this simple feature proved to be only a small frustrating hindrance, however it occasionally made completing certain missions that required you to stay out of sight nigh-impossible. It wouldn't be so bad either if it was only the earlier games that didn't include this ability, but the fact that it took seven iterations before it finally made an appearance is completely inexcusable.
