10 Beloved Video Game Genres That Didn't Deserve To Die

1. Japanese Horror

Take a quick moment to think about the most influential horror games to ever come out, or even just the first horror games that come to your mind. There's a 100% chance the games Silent Hill and Resident Evil came to mind. Shocker, these were both created by Japanese gaming studios - while Silent Hill has more of the traditional Japanese horror elements to it as opposed to Resident Evil.

These aren't the only Japanese Horror games, however. Let's not forget, mostly every other Silent Hill and Resident Evil, but also the Fatal Frame, Siren and Clock Tower series as well. Something about these horror games has far surpassed anything we've ever been given. They've become THE go-to games when you want to scare the living hell out of someone.

Nowadays, Resident Evil is a ghost of what it used to be, but hopefully Resident Evil 7 will change that. Silent Hill is all but forgotten, especially after P.T. and the debacle that soon followed. Clock Tower hasn't seen a release in 14 years and Siren's been gone for eight. Recently we saw The Evil Within which was a welcome surprise from fans of the genre, but even that had scares more routed in Western monster designs than mentally-scarring Eastern aesthetics.

With the reemergence of horror games recently, nobody wants anything more than a proper Japanese horror game. One that will stand the test of time, drive home a proper story all while making us cry like a bunch of school girls.

It's not too much to ask, is it?
