If you aren't a frequent Nintendo user, chances are you haven't seen a true 3D Platformer in some time now. While the genre is being kept on life support thanks to Nintendo - mostly Mario to be exact - it's practically dead elsewhere with few rare exceptions.

Some of you may remember games like Donkey Kong 64, Mario 64, Gex, Spyro, Banjo-Tooie and countless others from the N64 and PS1 days. And others will remember Psychonauts, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper and Prince of Persia from the next generation. These are all absolute gems in the gaming world and have all cemented their place in history.

While Mario is certainly still going strong on the 3D plane, games have all but regressed back into 2D. 2D platformers are more alive than ever thanks to Indie developers, and while it's not a bad thing as many good games have come from it, it would be a welcome surprise to dive back into the 3D realm we all miss dearly.
