10 Beloved Video Games Series That Have Been Ruined By The Industry

It's worth starting off by saying that Assassin's Creed never got truly awful. OK, Unity was quite possibly the most broken, buggy AAA game ever released, but beneath all the mess was a title showing a decent amount of ambition. And the relatively recent Black Flag was pretty good too.

While the quality of games in the prolific series isn't just a sheer downward drop since the ACII pinnacle, its inconsistency and yearly releases inevitably grew tiring for the fans. This was evident in the sales too, with diminishing returns on each entry since the top-selling but disappointing third entry.

Generic stories, repetitive missions (if I have to eavesdrop on one more f**king person, I swear to God I'll...), and combat mechanics that have failed to evolve while being put to shame by the likes of the Arkham series have taken their toll on the big-name franchise.

Wisely, Ubisoft have decided to give a year out while they think of how it can be improved, though we won't be allowed to completely push the series to the backs of our minds this year as we still have the movie to, err, 'look forward to'.
