10 Beloved Video Games That Left A Horrible First Impression

9. Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns Of The Patriots

Red Dead Redemption
Konami

Look, the cutscenes of Metal Gear Solid 4 have been a joke since before the game even released, and yet they're a real problem for new - and even returning - players who are hoping to jump into Solid Snake's final adventure.

Because just getting into the game can be a total nightmare. Not only do you have to go through a lengthy disc install before you can even boot it up, but once you're in the game, you're forced to watch a wealth of both live-action and pre-rendered cutscenes that spew exposition about the nanomachine-loving mind of Hideo Kojima.

Worse yet, if you for some reason skip these opening cinematics, then you might as well be playing blindfolded for the entirety of the game's introduction. Thrown straight into the middle of a war zone with no friendly allies, you're forced to navigate your way through complex and interlinking stages without any idea of why you're there, what you're doing or how you're supposed to use any of the gadgets you've been equipped with.
