9. Space Wreck
Switching out old school creature collecting for old school CRPGs, Space Wreck asks you to cleverly assign your skill points to create a character capable of fueling up an abandoned space station.
Said station is where you have experienced the titular space wreck and, much like an old classic RPG like the original Fallout games, Space Wreck is not especially forgiving. The challenge comes by way of your character build, by and large, as it should in a game where your stat allocation is the be all and end all. If you decide not to put any points into charisma, for example, you can’t even speak to other characters since you’re basically too socially anxious.
There are plenty of approaches to the hurdles presented in the game, as well as optional combat and impactful decision-making.
Space Wreck is a fun fleshed-out RPG in a tiny little package and while it’s hard to draw similarities to a game like The Outer Worlds due to the former’s retro visuals, both offer something we almost never see: a compact RPG that houses everything you want from the genre in a game you can knock out in around 10 hours.
