.hack//G.U. Last Recode is a collection of four previously released games in the .hack//G.U. series, remastered for modern audiences. The .hack series was reasonably popular in the West during its heyday, but it's since been (unjustly!) overshadowed by Sword Art Online - which basically stole its entire plot from .hack.

So, including a re-release of a game might (again) be seen as cheating - but Last Recode features enough new content that it deserves a spot of its own on this list. Along with completely new cutscenes and reworked graphics, the game also features a new fleshed out bonus chapter with content never before seen in the original game.

The most oddly appealing facet to the game is its focus on building a single-player game that still retains the feel of an MMORPG. From checking your emails to interacting with other players that are pretending to be in character, they really went the extra mile giving the game that authentic MMO feel.

And the critical response to the Last Recode reflects this level of care and detail, with a 76% on Metacritic and even a 9/10 on Steam. Plus, it's cheap as chips online at the moment! £15 for four games isn't half bad.
