10 Best Boss Battles In Final Fantasy History - Ranked
3. Kefka – Final Fantasy VI
Despite what many argue, Kefka isn't the only main series villain to achieve his goals (e.g. Ardyn Izunia was victorious for ten years; Emperor Mateus conquered Heaven and Hell).
The song is iconic but not the best. The battle is a challenge but very winnable. What makes this battle so great is the combination of all these. The build up, the emotion, the anger towards a villain that we also kind of love, and the imagery.
Before fighting Kefka, the player is asked to rank their party members, so if one dies, they can be instantly switched out. This alone gives the battle a unique and final quality.
After defeating the Statue of the Gods – a kind of renaissance-inspired amalgamation of the various aspects of Kefka's personalities - we immediately face off against the winged villain himself.
He starts by reducing the part to 1HP and then proceeds to unleash his most powerful magic. His attacks quickly become predictable and, considering the battles you had to get to to get here, you're more than capable of withstanding him.
However, that doesn't detract from the sheer excitement and importance of this battle, which will always be immortalised as one of the greatest.
