7. Bouldergeist (Super Mario Galaxy)
Super Mario Galaxy is not a particularly difficult game by any stretch of the imagination. So when a boss like Bouldergeist rolls around, you're in for a treat. This ghoulish enemy is one of the game's toughest bosses, especially when you're tasked with defeating him during a Daredevil Comet run.
The Daredevil Comet limits Mario to only one hit point, raising the stakes considerably. In fact, Bouldergeist becomes so tough to defeat that this particular star became notorious among the community. Bouldergeist itself is a relatively simple premise, but with a fun gimmick.
In order to defeat this rocky foe, Mario needs to grab and swing nearby Boos and smash them against the boss.
It helps that Bouldergeist has an incredible design - he's essentially a mass of darkness that has covered itself in a rocky armour. As you continue to batter him with Boos, more of that darkness is revealed, leading to a cool effect where it seems to spill out of him. Neat.
