10 Best Boss Fights In The Legend Of Zelda Franchise

Link’s Awakening is a game set entirely within the dream of a giant fish, so it stands to reason that things are going to get a little strange. Facade, the boss of the Face Shrine, fits this bill nicely. While most of Zelda’s bosses seem to lurk in a dungeon’s chamber for no particular reason, Facade has no choice: it is the chamber.

Facade is one of the more simply designed Zelda bosses: it’s a face on the floor. It attacks by creating holes in the floor (i.e itself) for Link to fall into, or by lobbing tiles at the hero. In truth it’s not so hard to defeat, as it has a glaring tactical weakness: a big open mouth that you can drop bombs into.

While Facade is far from the most challenging foe Link will encounter, it is certainly one of the most distinctive. Link’s Awakening has a somewhat different vibe to other Zelda games, frothy and charming rather than dark and serious, and this particular boss fight perfectly encapsulates that approach.

In other games, doing battle with the floor would be an abrupt mood shift. Here, it fits just right.
