10 Best Boss Fights In The Legend Of Zelda Franchise

Elemental battles are a common thread in Zelda games, and A Link To The Past’s Trinexx may be the best of the genre. Link’s task is a pretty straightforward one: he is met by a giant stone turtle-like creature which has three heads: one emitting ice, and one emitting fire (and one boring ordinary one in the middle).

Link is equipped with a fire rod and an ice rod. It’s not too hard to guess what happens next. Trinexx is one of the final bosses in ALTTP, and makes for a slog of a battle. It attacks Link with all three vicious heads, and the hero must be fast on his feet.

In the final stage of the battle, Trinexx sheds its rocky shell to reveal a snake-like body beneath, and attacks once more. Link can now slash away at the orb in the monster’s core. His prize for defeating the beast is a crystal containing Princess Zelda. Nice!

Trinexx’s elemental attacks, and the methods for defeating it, are echoed in great bosses from later games, like Ocarina Of Time’s Twinrova. This one stands out, however, as a highlight of the first truly great Zelda.
