10 Best Boss Fights In The Legend Of Zelda Franchise
5. Ghirahim
Perhaps the finest creation in Skyward Sword, Ghirahim is a perfect video game heel, the kind of antagonist you can’t wait to be strong enough to defeat. A servant of the demon king Demise, Ghirahim pursues Link across the game and battles with him repeatedly, becoming increasingly deranged as each of his efforts to defeat the boy hero are thwarted.
Dislikeable from the off, Ghirahim is rangy, blond, and oh so arrogant, a textbook smug villain. He mocks Link, concluding that killing the weak young lad would be unfair, and deciding instead to teach him a violent lesson instead and send him on his way.
The fight itself is pure swordsmanship, with the player using the motion controls to find a way to attack the overconfident Ghirahim. It requires a serious grasp of the sometimes tricky system the game utilises, but when you grasp it, it’s the closest the game has come to the sensation of real sword fighting.
The game’s true threat is Demise, the progenitor of Ganon, but the most charismatic villainous presence comes from Ghirahim, a brilliantly devised and developed foil for Link.
