9. Bloodborne - It Was All Menstrual Blood

I know there's some crazy stuff going down in Yharnam by the time our character arrives there to partake in the Hunt, but - despite werewolves, pale-faced Quakers and crazed villagers lying in wait around every corner, did they not ever once stop to question why blood had replaced traditional medicine?

No, he or she just happily goes around jabbing themselves with the red stuff like a crazed pill-popper, no questions asked. Shooting up on blood is already bonkers, but when you consider that the kind you're injecting yourself with is of the menstrual variety, the crazy dial goes way past 11.

The theory comes from the fact that fertile female characters you come across can provide you with their own blood, and that one of them in particular - Arianna - stops doing so when she becomes pregnant. Likewise, the Old Lady you send to the Cathedral Ward never offers you any, as she's likely to be post-menopause.

And as if you needed any more allusions to that particular theme, several items, areas and enemies carry the name Mensis, a word that's one letter away from being menses - the Latin word for menstruation. Lovely.

This is all unconfirmed, of course. Let's hope it stays that way.
