Well fancy that, Final Fantasy VII fans: all of those years you've spent hating Sephiroth for murdering Aerith in cold blood may actually have been directed at the wrong person. A popular (and very far-fetched) theory questions the absence of blood after Sephiroth stabs Aerith in the back, suggesting that his sword missed all of the vital organs and blood vessels, but shattered her spine, paralysing her.

The corker is that, if Aerith really was alive after the attack, it means that Cloud actually unintentionally drowned her when he took charge of the burial. Science says that dead bodies float rather than sink - as Aerith did - so yeah, nice one Cloud, you doofus.

Not that any of this really matters, of course. Whether it was Cloud or Sephiroth's fault, Aerith was pretty screwed either way.
