10 Best Final Bosses In Resident Evil History
5. Derek Simmons - Resident Evil 6
Speaking of disappointing Resident Evil games...
Actually, RE6 isn't as bad as its reputation suggests (now there's a pull-quote for you). Two of the four campaigns may be duds, but Leon and Ada provide enough thrills through their respective storylines for the game to be worth a punt if you see it cheap (and there's the second pull-quote). And the undoubted highlight of these campaigns is the magnificently overblown fight against Derek Simmons, another case of a boring villain providing a pulse-pounding boss battle. Several, in this case.
The running fight against Simmons is one of the few time RE6's maximalist tendencies work in its favour. This fight is memorable not just for the number of times you have to put the bugger down, but for the increasingly insane situations it creates. You:
1) Fight him on a speeding train after he becomes a giant horse.
2) Shoot him with a mounted machine gun from the back of a truck after he becomes a T-Rex
3) Throw him off one skybridge into another one that's on fire.
4) Finally finish him off by zapping him with lightning after he turns into a godzilla-sized housefly.
An utterly bizarre fever dream of a boss battle, Simmons may not have been a great villain but his Rasputinian death is one of the most memorable moments in gaming for the past decade.
