5. Samus Is Actually A Woman

it seems absolutely ludicrous nowadays that nobody knew that Samus was a woman back in the day, but when people first played Metroid on the NES, they didn't have a clue.

Back then, you may not have seen the big reveal anyway! Samus only takes her suit off if the players manages to finish the game in under three hours. Anything over that, and she'll stay in her iconic suit instead.

When the game first released, all you knew about Samus was that they had a cool suit with an awesome laser arm cannon thing and the game was pretty damn brilliant. It's hands down one of the best kept secrets in gaming, and one of the best shock reveals ever.

It was an amazing moment not only for its shock factor, but was also a trailblazing moment for women in gaming.

Since this initial reveal, Samus has gone on to become one of gaming's most beloved and badass characters, starring in hit game after hit game from Super Metroid, through Metroid Prime up until the exceptional Metroid Dread recently.
