There's always a lighthouse...

When first playing Bioshock Infinite, you'd think it was just loosely connected to the original games by the actual Bioshock name. The first two entries in the series took place in the dystopian underwater nightmare that was Rapture, and Bioshock Infinite took the series in a completely different direction (literally!) as you travel into the skies into the floating city of Colombia.

Throughout the game, both Rapture and Colombia are pretty distinct from each other. There are some similarities such as the ability to use plasmids/vigors to use supernatural powers, but for all intents and purposes, we all thought Colombia was just a different, separate chapter in the Bioshock universe.

Then comes the game's absolute mind-melter of an ending. It's revealed that there are in fact Infinite Bioshock universes, all connected by lighthouses. Protagonist Booker Dewitt ends up travelling along with Elizabeth into several of these realities, and in an epic moment of fan service, they end up inside Rapture and the connection between the games' universes is fully established.

This is also extremely exciting for the future of the franchise, as the developers are said to be working on a new Bioshock title and it could go literally anywhere.
