10 Best GTA Games - Ranked

9. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City

Gta 4 Iv The Ballad Of Gay Tony
Rockstar

Completely overlooked thanks to GTA IV being the first notable dud in the series, both sizeable DLCs "The Lost & Damned" and "The Ballad of Gay Tony" include all the character and personality that was lacking from the base game.

Released as a two-part standalone combo, Episodes is WELL worth checking out - especially if you discarded them because of the attitude towards GTA at the time.

Where GTA IV focused on Niko Bellic's satisfying-enough revenge tale that doubled as a comment on how manufactured the "American dream" can be, Lost & Damned is essentially Rockstar doing a Sons of Anarchy tie-in. Main-man Johnny Klebitz is a tough-talking hog-rider with a heart of gold - someone who fits the GTA protagonist mould, but allows for great story and character beats, too.

The Ballad of Gay Tony is essentially Rockstar teasing out what a modernised Vice City might feel like. There's everything from all-new radio stations to a story that takes you from neon-lit night clubs to the tops of towers - only to base jump all the way back to the bottom again.

That sense of freewheeling, cartoonish anarchy that Vice City and San Andreas revelled in, yet was missing from GTA IV? It's all right here.
