4. Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is a self-stylised homage to the classic 8-bit and 16-bit action adventures of a bygone era of gaming, modernised in its blend of bright neon colours and synthesised soundtrack. What it lacks in words it makes up for in imagery and fast-paced action as its main means of telling its story.

Whilst I'd love to sum up the plot of the game, its abstract style leaves much of it open for interpretation, whilst the rest of it is hidden away in secret rooms and invisible pathways which challenge the gamer to explore every inch and destory every container of every scene.

However, the important part is that, as The Drifter, you have a bad ass energy sword that allows you to challenge the baddies and bosses that inhabit the world around you. Combos, boss-kills and secret discoveries earn you in-game currency to unlock upgrades, as well as long range weapons to help you on your quest.

Despite its unique look and unconventional styles, the game's inspirations ooze through the battle mechanics and look, almagamating the best parts of Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Diablo.
