10 Best Indie Video Games Of 2016
3. Obduction
Proving that nobody does it better than the original, previous entry The Witness wasn't the only game this year to call upon inspirations of puzzle-classic Myst. After 3 years of development and Kickstarter support, original developers Cyan Worlds also published Obduction, spirtiual successor to the mid-90s best-selling puzzle adventure.
Obduction retains the style and feel of Myst, but with a more driven plot and unusual setting. Abducted with an A, the player finds themselves stranded on an alien world, amidst other Earth-like items, buildings and characters that have been abducted across a range of Earth's eras.
Working with C.W., an inventor from 1870, the player hops between spheres of various timelines and environments, solving puzzles to help build a device that will return them to Earth.
The game is familiar enough to appeal to classic point-and-click puzzle adventurers, but compelling enough to intrigue first-timers, taking advantage of VR technology to provide an ever more immersive experience. Fortunately, the puzzles remain challenging but logical, retaining that smug feeling of satisfaction after finally solving one.
