If there's one thing we're seeing everywhere from the very idea of a Hobbit movie trilogy to endless Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty sequels, it's that when a creator is onto something that's lining their pockets with cash, restraint is the last thing on their mind. It's become the same in a handful of the LEGO titles too, as with very basic gameplay unless you're a fan of a particular franchise you're never going to check them out. Luckily LEGO LOTR is one of the good ones, as well as being one of the first LEGO titles to do away with the physical comedy aspect of the cutscenes, instead taking dialogue from the movies and reenacting scenes with characters' blocky counterparts. There are few things on this earth so perfectly put together and stupidly loveable as watching any number of scenes that were treated with so much seriousness on-screen, here re-appropriated in LEGO form. Developer Traveller's Tales are clearly huge Tolkien fans, and the whole production treats his creation with the utmost love and care, whilst poking fun at all the right scenes. It's worth checking out for Gandalf's "Fly, you fools!" and Lego Gollum alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_CvoG3nY3Q
