10 Best Lovecraftian Enemies In Video Games

1. Hermaeus Mora - Skyrim

How could it be anyone else. And while Hermaeus Mora isn’t a typical enemy that you fight, her still fits the classification, serving one of the big bads in the Elder Scrolls Universe. Having appeared throughout the series, the Daedric Prince finally got a chance to shake his tentacles to the best of his ability in the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim.

Hoarder of ancient and forbidden knowledge, Hermaeus Mora is ripped straight from Lovecraft’s finest works. Appearing in a multitude of forms, including a mass of eyes and tentacles or a vast swirling void, Hermaeus Mora not only looks Lovecraftian, but represents the finer points of his mythos.

With heavy emphasis on forbidden knowledge and waylaying mortals into insanity with the promise of the secrets of the world, everything about him is Lovecraftian. From his Daedric artefact, the Oghma Infinium and its striking resemblance to the Necromicon to his overall appearance being reminiscent of Yog-Sothoth, he exudes Lovecraftian influence.

The reason he takes top billing is because he ticks all the boxes. Unimaginably powerful, incomprehensible in scope, working on schemes mortals couldn’t comprehend, cosmological in scale and has more tentacles than your favourite hentai fever dream. And if that’s not Lovecraftian, then I don’t know what is.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
