10 Best Low-Level Monsters In Dungeons & Dragons
9. Gnolls
Do you need a savage enemy to hook your players into a plot, well then look no further than the brutal Gnolls? Looking like a humanoid Hyena, the Gnolls are a classic tribal culture for you new players to fight against. Because of their territorial nature and love of war trophies, you can use Gnolls to attack most small human settlements or caravans, putting your players on the warpath.
Depending on the level of your players, you will have to use these enemies sparingly, as with an Armour class of 15 and hit points of 22, these monsters can be quite the challenge for a very low party. However, as the players increase in levels you can throw other Gnoll subclasses at them such as the pack lord for a low-level boss.
These creatures would suit a campaign that wanted to get away from the normal forest setting and see some dusty plains, but don’t underestimate them, however. Their rampage ability can easily lead to a total party kill.
