10 Best Low-Level Monsters In Dungeons & Dragons
3. Animated Objects
Players are always going to be checking doors for traps or peeking around corners to spot enemies but you know what is often worse for the player? When they don’t see anything. A big mansion, abandoned yet complete and all you see are a few weapons, a suit of armour and a rug in the main hall. Your players will probably enter, imagine their surprise when there attacked by all these items.
This section is dedicated to three main enemies Flying sword, Animated Armour and Rug of Smothering. These three combined can be used quite effectively against a low-level party. Are you hunting a mage that has booby-trapped their tower? Or maybe you’re investigating a haunted house. Each one of these will be perfect for the setting, and they have some interesting abilities you can use on an early level party as well. There nothing funnier than seeing a fighter knock down a wizard who is wrapped up by a rug.
You will probably want to use these in conjunction with other enemies for them to have a big impact, but they work great to either set up a scene or to make the party more cautious.
