10 Best Modern Video Game Soundtracks

6. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Greg Edmonson)

''Slightly'' inspired by the adventures of one Indiana Jones. Nathan Drake needed its own similar yet recognizable sound to set it apart, but also give you that nice nostalgia fed dopamine boost. That led to a soundtrack that sounds like Indiana Jones, but different. Like when that band you were fan of as kid returns to make one last song, and it's as fulfilling as you had hoped.

Uncharted uses every cliché in the book, and it does so perfectly. Shrieks indicate danger, maracas signal jungle and pan flutes are included to pay tribute to that one South Park episode with all the panflutes. Probably.

Composer Greg Edmonson looked very closely to what made those iconic John Williams scores work so well. Horns (always those bloody horns) make the music feel tense, raising the stakes of its action. And even while the tension is high, it's always like the music is saying: ''you got this, go get them''.
