10 Best Movement Systems In Gaming History
3. Mirror's Edge: Catalyst
Of course Mirror's Edge had to come up at some point.
There's a reason why Mirror's Edge became the cult classic is is now, and that's because it delivered something that we'd never really seen before with first-person platforming. Up until that point, only a few games had vaguely tried it, and it was never the main focus.
Mirror's Edge showed that it could be done, and it could be done well.
As beloved as the original Mirror's Edge is, Catalyst managed to build on everything the original had done, as well as tying movement and combat together more and giving the player a big open-world to move around in. Movement felt great, and that meant the core gameplay loop didn't get tired.
For some reason, Mirror's Edge Catalyst didn't catch on quite as well as EA hoped it would, which is a shame considering it's actually a great game.
Let's hope that we get to see another Mirror's Edge at some point.
