10 Best New Female Video Game Characters Of The Decade

9. Tracer - Overwatch

Overwatch has no story mode, and aside from a bit of external world building here and there, virtually no narrative at all. It’s not a game you’d immediately associate with classic characters then, with no story to bake them into.

One of the reasons Overwatch enjoyed such success though was because it defied this convention. As a hero shooter, it needed solid heroes to back up its varied and intuitive mechanics. Through Tracer, they certainly found that.

Anyone who’s played Overwatch will have their favourites, whether based on play style, personality or range of attacks. Tracer though transcends this. She’s not a runaway favourite character - though she is popular - but most importantly, she’s the franchise mascot. She even represented the game in the Spielberg movie Ready Player One.

Though she comes with low health, Tracer’s quick twin pulse pistols and ability to blink through space make her a blast to play as. ‘I’m already Tracer’ became a meme for a reason, after all.

Aided by her cheeky chappy cockney accent and perhaps bogus controversies over her being a lesbian and posing ‘provocatively’, Tracer is a modern gaming icon.
