10 Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives Of 2019

3. Pokemon Sword & Pokemon Shield

Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield aren’t as good as a Pokémon game on the Switch could be. By the same token though, they’re nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe, either.

They might not fully make use of the Switch’s capabilities - it’s not Breath Of The Wild with Pokémon - but the major ‘Dexit’ controversy doesn’t detract too much from an individual game play. The story beats are fairly similar, though some have been given a new angle, but the main selling point is the vast expanse of the Wild Area.

Accessible prior to the first gym with more areas accessible over time, the Wild Area is a wide open space teeming with Pokémon. Some may be too high level for you to catch at first, but it just makes it more realistic when your level 6 Grookey and Wooloo are forced to flee from a level 40 Haunter early on.

Hop has come in for criticism for interrupting the battles with dialogue, but then this seems a staple of Galar. He has one of the best character arcs of any rival, with jerkass Bede and rough around the edges Marnie there to patch any rivalry gaps.
