10 Best No.3's In Gaming History

8. The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

The only game here not to include a "3" in its title, this list would be nevertheless incomplete without discussing the third entry in the Zelda series.

This was the game where Nintendo cracked the Zelda code. After the charmingly basic original and the deeply weird Zelda II ( a game best summed up with its memetic "I AM ERROR" line), Link to the Past lit the path Zelda would follow for the next 20-odd years.

Many of the series' mainstays - travelling through parallel worlds, the Master Sword, cucco-baiting - were introduced here, creating a journey that still regularly cracks many peoples' "best Zelda game" polls. It's an accolade richly deserved - while the first two Zeldas are only worth playing in a historic sense, Link to the Past is still an endearing, richly rewarding game in its own right.

Not many games entering their fourth decade hold up as well as Link to the Past, and if you've yet to experience the wonders of Light and Dark Hyrule this is still an adventure worth undertaking.
