Back in the '90s, platformers were big business and virtually every game released gave players the chance to run and, most importantly, jump their way around the digital world of their choice. Nintendo, somewhat ironically given they effectively invented the genre, decided that jumping was very overrated and opted to ignore the idea altogether for their gaming masterpiece, Ocarina of Time.

So Link isn't known for his jumping skills, right? Well... actually, Link had been jumping long before the N64 arrived in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link but more importantly in Link's Awakening, courtesy of the Roc's Feather.

Named after a mythical giant bird, the Roc's Feather gave Link the ability to jump and we never knew just how much we needed it. Pairing the feather with 2D Zelda staples, the Pegasus Boots, allowed Link to hurl himself over vast gaps and it was so very satisfying to land a sketchy jump first time.

Sadly, there's no place for the counterpart Pegasus Boots on this list due to their combat uses but the Roc's Feather is definitely amongst the coolest items Link picks up on his travels.
