10 Best Non-WWE Wrestling Video Games Ever

2. WCW/nWo Revenge (N64)

The best video game that WCW put together, without a doubt. WCW/nWo Revenge came out when professional wrestling was really taking off, entering its hottest period ever, and this was seen by many as the computer game pinnacle of that time. It was a commercial and critical success, a combination that not many games can match.

In many ways, Revenge came about in a perfect storm. WCW hadn’t fallen off the wagon yet and the game came out at a time when the company undoubtedly had the superior roster. This was fans' chance to take someone like Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero or Raven and smash through the glass ceiling. The roster was immense, the gameplay was second to none (at the time) and it flew off the shelves.

There is a lot of irony to be found in the success and quality of WCW/nWo Revenge. One of the reasons for its success was that it identified what it got wrong in previous games and improved on them, showing an ability to learn from mistakes. It was a refusal to evolve that helped put the real WCW out of business.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
