10 Best Non-WWE Wrestling Video Games Ever

Legends Of Wrestling 2

Legends of Wrestling was a pro wrestling franchise that existed at a strange time. WWE’s grip on the industry had not long become total, but the relatively recent demise of WCW and ECW meant that there were still many popular performers outside the grasp of the McMahon family. Many of these came together in Legends of Wrestling, throwing up some strange matches for PlayStation 2 and Xbox users to enjoy.

Legends of Wrestling II gets the nod ahead of its predecessor, largely because of a slightly better roster and improved gameplay. The territory style of the game is a delight, allowing players to pick a legend of the sport (Eddie Guerrero perchance? Or maybe Terry Funk?) and move around the territories, building a name and a legacy along the way.

The game left a lot to be desired when evaluated in full, but there was more than enough commitment to wrestling tradition that meant fans were happy to give it a go. Do avoid the Game Boy Advance version though, oh boy.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
