10 Best Open-World Games Of 2018
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a tough one to praise. Not because it's unworthy or filled with flaws, but because in doing so, it encourages Rockstar and its contemporaries to seek out means to better themselves. With the tales of overworked employees and a culture of fear at Rockstar HQ preceding Red Dead 2's release, one has to question if the ends justify the means.
With the results now clear for all to see, the resounding answer can only be yes, but it's not a direction Rockstar, or any developer for that matter, should make a habit of pursuing. Arthur Morgan's story, his fantastically written and voice-acted cohorts and the photorealistic rendition of the Old West in which they live dwarf the quality of any open world game to come before it and likely will continue to for years to come.
No doubt in the future, new hardware will provide the tools necessary for something to surpass Red Dead Redemption 2's technical achievements, but as it stands, nothing short of a small country's GDP and workforce could produce something of such quality.
