10 Best Open-World Video Games
2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
For my money, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the quintessential single player experience.
There’s just something truly magical about exploring Cyrodiil for the first time. Yes, the map is huge and there’s a lot to see and do, but none of it feels like filler.
Every town has its own personality and stories. You can wander on your own, or join one (or more) of the multiple factions. There’s thievery, murder, mystery and intrigue all under one roof, quite literally in fact, in one of the most memorable quests in gaming history.
Oblivion is at its best when you’re walking along and see something interesting in the corner of your eye. Regardless of whether you’re navigating ancient ruins or scouring every corner of the world for the awe-inspiring Daedric shrines, there’s enough to keep you busy for a very long time (and that’s without mentioning the expansions).
